Carlo Carrà. My life

This exhibition dedicated to Carlo Carrà is the first with which the city of Potenza celebrates the artist. Curators Massimo Carrà and Elena Pontiggia have organized the works in such a way as to trace the autobiography of the artist, "Carlo Carrà, La mia vita" (by Massimo Carrà, published by Abscondita). The sixty year career of the Piedmont-born painter is represented through approximately seventy works, including paintings and drawings.
Renowned as one of the co-signatories the Futurist Manifesto, from the early 1900s to the Sixties Carrà experimented with different artistic trends, from Realism to Divisionism, from the Metaphysical to the "mythical realism" of the Twenties and Thirties, through to works after the second world war.  The exhibition opens with portraits dedicated to Carrà by other artists, including Boccioni, Manzù, Marino Marini and Marinetti.
Amongst works on show, several canvases - like "Ritmi di bottiglia e bicchiere" from 1912, "Guerra navale sull'Adriatico" (1914) and  "Cineamore", an example of "tavole parolibere", a Futurist visual poem, created between 1914 and 1915 - reveal a strong futurist influence. There are also many works from the Thirties, including "Studio per Giustiniano; while pieces from the next decade and from the post-war period include   "Alba tragica" (1940), "La casa di Merate" (1958), "Marina all'alba" (1964).
