The latest new album from Elisa, "Pearl Days", was recorded entirely in Los Angeles. It was produced by the famous Glen Ballard who, over the course of his career, has been responsible for the release of albums like "Jagged Little Pill" by Alanis Morisette.
The tracks were written at the same time as the album "Lotus", yet reveal a pursuit of atmosphere and mood that go beyond the boundaries of Italian music, perhaps more so than in previous albums. The international flavour of the album can be seen in various aspects, first of all in the acoustics, and secondly in the choice of English for the lyrics. This was a familiar choice for the singer-songwriter from Monfalcone, who affirms: "Writing and singing in English comes completely natural to me (...). It's like being tuned in to the right words (...). There's no strategic move behind it. Indeed, it appears that as far as Elisa is concerned, the written word can never prevaricate or take the place of music. The album features many songs with sophisticated, difficult melodies that stray considerably from commercial formats. Rock is a hard emotion, which is pursued with total sincerity.
At the same time, behind each track is a real story, real inspiration. "I don't really like talking about what I write because I say it all already in the songs", the singer-songwriter admits. Nonetheless, she reveals that "Life Goes On" is a kind of circle containing the generation gap between her grandparents and her mother; "The waves" talks about choices, perhaps tough choices regarding love.
